No. 1 Most Extreme Airport: Lukla Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal
One of the most busiest airports in the world! Landing and Take-off at Lukla are very interesting and exciting!!!

@narayankhatrey I don’t know, i am not expert in this field.
@narayankhatrey I bet it is.
@MauroSantta1 2600 mtrs
@jpdmk u think an airbus can land in a runway of 475 meters..
@HEADBANGBALLER i have done it in 2008…..its scary whne you land and then have a look at the airport…
@HEADBANGBALLER Thats was one and half year ago when i visited the Pokhara also.. I thought that was my last day, luckily i salute the pilot of yeti airlines, he landed safely. My body shivers nowadays as well when i remember this incident.
I don’t think I have the balls to even be a passenger, let alone a pilot. In my opinion, landing here is more difficult than landing on an aircraft carrier. At least on a carrier you can wave off and try again. Not here. That coupled with the altitude, fog, up/down drafts, short runway and you have a badass airport. When were you there?
Feel a bit proud to say i have done this runway
2K8 and at the tender age of 17!
Never flew in as we trekked from Giri to EBC, (about 2 1/2 weeks walking), but when we were told we could fly back down we were elated until we saw the runway :O
This has to be witnessed first hand…..
why’s it caled runway 24 if it’s only one runway
Those aircraft are, Canada’s Twin otter, and Germany’s Dornier. I work on these aircraft. Both are known for the ability to take off and land in very short distances.Very apropriate for this airport.
@HEADBANGBALLER You should visit there and check it out yourself then you will know if you have balls just to fly over. I did but not sure if i will do it again. I salute the pilots there.
I just watched the History Channel’s “Worlds Most Extreme Airports” and this ranked number one. The runway is like 1200 feet long, at a twelve degree angle, has vicious downdrafts, updrafts and turbulance. Once committed, there is no go around. It’s a one way trip. Plus, at that altitude, there is a thirty percent loss of power due to the thin air. The pilots who fly there have balls of concrete. So do the passengers!
Are you serious? Please tell us you are joking. If you are not, my faith in humanity is fading quickly.
I would request that my pilot yell “Everybody scream!” as we neared the end of the runway. So I probably wouldn’t be allowed on many flights
@jpdmk I would imagine the runway could theoretically be widened, and they could even possibly add an additional runway, but I don’t think it would work even then. The runway(s) would simply be far too short. In this video, the far end of the runway is at the top of a very steep piece of the earth. Almost a cliff, really. So the runway can’t be moved outward from the mountains at the near end. I suppose a HUGE engineering project could remove the mountains and fill in the far end
@coolbreeze922 Just forgot one more question to ask. How is the possibilities to enlarge the airport and make suitable for the big planes like? Any idea?
@coolbreeze922 I see thanks for reply.
@jpdmk Because the runway is only 460m long and 20m wide, is at 2,800m elevation, and has a mountain range immediately at the near end (not seen in this video) which makes go-arounds impossible. Landing even the reasonably-sized Boeing 737 here would be like putting a rhinoceros through the eye of a needle.
I am just wondering why they cant fly big aeroplanes such as Airbus or Boing in that area. Air traffic would be less if they could do so? Does anybody has any idea?
